Ferguson Scholarships for African National at SOAS University of London 2013

The Scholarships are aimed at  African Students (African nationals and resident in Africa), who wish to undertake a taught masters course at SOAS, University of London (the School of Oriental and African Studies).  The University is the only Higher Education institution in the United Kingdom specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East.

Thanks to the generosity of the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable trust, The three scholarships are each worth £14,956 and can be used for  tuition fees and the remainder towards maintenance.

  • Full-time MA African Studies
  • Full-time MA International Studies and Diplomacy
  • Full-time MA Social Anthropology of Development

Selection Criteria:

  • The Ferguson scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit
  • Candidates will be assessed by an Advisory Panel consisting of three academic members.
  • The assessment of your application will be based on the information in your scholarship application.  Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references, statement and other relevant information.
  • Students offered a Ferguson Scholarship must take it up in the academic year 2013/14 and it cannot be carried forward to a later year.
Scholarship Application Deadline
  • Applications must be received by 17:00 (GMT) on 22 March 2013.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered
  • Applicants applying for scholarships must also submit an application for admission well in advance. Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.

Notification of Results

All candidates will be notified by e-mail regarding the outcome of their scholarship application, generally by the end of June.  The successful candidate will also be notified in writing.  If you have not had a response to your application by the end of June, please contact the Scholarships Officer.
